Just watched Gravity starring Bullock and Clooney. Great movie but while watching I can’t help but think ‘oh, the starship enterprise will save you’ or ‘Jim and Spock to the rescue!’ Or ‘where are all the EPAS?!’

But great movie. Made me hold my breath IN SOOOOO MANY PARTS

Did you know that the Bible has been translated into Klingon?

Was that Klingon? You psychotic nerd!

just fucking hilarious

Am I the only one who thinks Star Trek is actually he future?

*New Recs since June 2013

These fics are my favorites. Favorite , meaning I’m willing to be stuck in a room and reread all of these again and again.

My Name is Jim Kirk

If Jim can’t quit drinking, then he’s never going to be able to fix his life and apologise for what he’s done - to his boss, his colleagues, his friends, and most importantly, his ex-boyfriend. His name is Jim Kirk - and he’s an alcoholic.

Rating: R. this is an AU. How Jim cleaned himself up and Sulu’s support in everything is very realistic. And Spock is just.. wonderful.

Measure of Men

My Summary: The crew defends the relationship of Kirk and Spirk in a trial and get away with it.

My thoughts: this is a wonderful characterization of everyone. I especially loved the author’s Chekov.

There is a sharp glint to his sky-blue eyes that is entirely too Kirk, and speaks of some measure of disregard for authority that was not there when Archer last saw the Russian. There is also, much to everyone’s surprise, an elegant grace and subtle mannerisms that reveal that Pavel Chekov became a man under Commander Spock’s careful scrutiny and tutoring.

 Still Life

Traumatized by his experience on Tarsus IV, Jim Kirk runs away to Vulcan to undergo kolinahr. Reboot AU.

“We’re not strangers,” Jim says. He’s spent a long time hiding his thoughts from everyone. He’s been quiet. He’s hardly talked. Sometimes, he justwants, wants something, he doesn’t know what. He wants to tell someone everything. Wants someone to look inside his mind and accept all the shit that’s there. “How will I tell you what not to look at? If I’m thinking about it, won’t you see it?”

Where Spock ends up crazy for Kirk’s touch

Very slowly, he shifted his foot so that the very tip of his boot pressed lightly against the sole of Kirk’s, under the table where no-one could see, so lightly that the Captain could not possibly feel it, and felt daring.

Spock gets drugged on a shore leave and is overwhelmed with its effects.  Kirk tries to pick up the pieces.

"I didn’t.  All of a sudden this big smile came over her face, and for some reason I looked up and saw that the Ambassador had come into the room, and she’d known, even though her back was to him.  She turned to him, and they looked at each other, and the vibes going between them almost knocked me down.  They disappeared soon after that, and I’m betting they snuck off to have sex."

 Report from the Rim

Behind the machinations of bureaucracy lurks the lives of real people.

Spock takes off that cloak.  Careful.  Slow.  Puts it around the other one.  And now I know who he’s been saving it for.  He don’t say nothing, but his whole body changes.  He’s taller somehow.  Straighter.  I’m more used to reading his face now than I was, and there’s joy now in his eyes.  You don’t see that in the Pit, Federatti.  Not ever.

Ratings: Mature

In his first year in command of the USS Enterprise James T. Kirk must gel his new team together, adapt to his abrupt change in status over his friends, and deal with falling for his first officer. And, of course, there’s always someone out to threaten the galaxy.

"I think this is a damn fool plan," he said. "And when we get blown to smithereens, I want my tombstone to have a great big ‘I told you so,’ you hear?"

"Thanks, Bones," said Kirk, turning last to Scotty, who looked thoroughly bemused.

Your First Time Should be Special

The thing about being a captain of a starship is that you forget how to break up with people; the starship is a gigantic, unmistakable clue that you’re probably not sticking around.

Jim’s not a robot and deep space is really, really lonely. They never really mentioned that in class, or—they did, but they made it sound tough and badass and nothing like the long hauls between star systems that can mean days of the void and realizing how impossibly fucking insignificant you are. Sometimes after almost getting their asses blown up or having to negotiate a peace treaty between a bunch of people who hate each other or getting beaten or tortured or discovering yet another planet where awful things happen and they can’t fix it because of the prime directive, it’s nice not to end up alone in his quarters, contemplating getting drunk, pathetic and alone.

 Debt of Honor

TOS A/U novella. Six months after being taken prisoner and raped by a Vulcan captain, Kirk finds that same Vulcan is now being assigned as his first officer when peace between Vulcan and Earth is declared. Originally published in the print fanzine Beyond Dreams 7 (2004), edited by Jenna Sinclair.

My thoughts: I usually don’t read non-con. I don’t like it.. but this fic has been appearing in MOST fic rec lists that I’ve been searching through. So, I prepared my self to read this. It was worth it

"Do you realize how lucky we were to even find each other? And then to end up serving in Starfleet together? What are the odds? We owe whoever thought up that integration plan a lot of gratitude…. Without it we probably wouldn’t have ever met again."

"Vulcans do not believe in random circumstances which operate in one’s favor."

"Then how do you explain it? If it wasn’t luck, what was it?"

"It was an exceeding well thought out plan on my part to put us together on the same vessel for an extended period of time."

No-Win Scenario

PROMPT: “Kirk/Spock. Epic, epic kissing. Just prior to energizing K is thinking he just might not come back and this will be his only opportunity for a taste of the first officer he’s secretly!madly!inlove! with. Shock and awe amongst K and crew when Spock returns the kiss (and how!) because of course he’s also secretly!madly!inlove! with Kirk. From the Princess Bride, ‘Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.’ I want this to be that kiss. Desperate and beautiful, we might never get the chance again kissing.”

My thoughts: heartbreaking in its desperation and the love it portrayed. Just go read this. wont even take an hour.

"Dammit, Jim," says Bones quietly, face crumpling. Jim gives up, then, and pulls him into a fierce hug. Fuck, talk about things you never wanted to get a chance to see in your life: your best friend’s reaction to your probable death. His heart feels like it’s been scraped out of his chest.

Rating: PG

* Strength of Men

While a deadly disease incapacitates the Enterprise, an old enemy of Jim’s forces him to remember his time on Tarsus IV. Spock finds Kirk’s pain unacceptable.

My thoughts: One of my favorite fics to read is anything related to the Tarsus IV. This quickly became one my faves.

Admiral Pike’s facial features became even more closed off and expressionless, except for one vein pounding prominently in his temple.  When he did speak it was through clenched teeth. “You are dangerously close to an official reprimand.”

There was no sound from Spock while the Admiral visibly tried to get a hold of himself.  “You do not fully understand the situation. If we findevidence that it was Kodos that hurt the captain-”

Here Spock broke off his thought. “Reprimand me if you wish, Admiral. But know that I will find whoever was responsible.   We will arrive in New Vulcan in approximately four hours. Spock out.”

Spock ended the transmission.

“Jesus, Spock. Remind me never to piss you off.” Bones seemed somehow horrified and impressed at the same time.

* Coming Home

Set a few months into their first mission, the Enterprise is ordered to pick up a Vulcan Healer and transport him to the new colony. Once there they are scheduled to remain and assist with the early stages of setting up the colony. Kirk’s liaison is his ‘old friend’ Ambassador Spock, now known as Elder Sepak, who takes the opportunity to help Kirk and Spock become better acquainted.

My thoughts: Really did Jim Kirk justice and it involved a very logical explanation of Spock’s actions. Wonderful. And also Bones just wow. and Jim’s fear of CMO’s (and I say CMO and not Bones because yeah. DIFFERENT) actions were logical. Seriously.

He felt a tightening of his throat, of his chest, his eyes prickling and he swallowed loudly. In that moment, Spock glanced up, as if aware of his thoughts, his eyes riveted on the aghast look he had no doubt his face wore.

“You, on the Jellyfish, you didn’t intend…” Kirk’s voice was cracked and in the next instant, he saw a look of shocked recognition that he’d figured out what Spock’s plan had been.

Kirk fought to breathe evenly, remembering that feeling he himself had once had, that exhilaration of knowing that soon all his pain would cease forever. But in the end, he hadn’t taken that final step. At a fundamental level he was a born optimist, always believing in hope, in other possibilities, in alternative options, and as certainly as he had wanted to die, he had become certain he wanted to live. In the moment before his action had become irrevocable, he had leaped from the car and had cheated death.

As Kirk watched, that first startled look transformed into one of wretchedness, of utter misery such as he’d never seen on the normally impassive visage, not even as they’d watched Vulcan implode. It was as if everything that had been inside him at the time, that had driven him to such an extreme, was there, right now. Here Spock sat before him, trying valiantly to hold all his unbearable pain inside, his decision to end his life arbitrarily taken away from him by an eccentric genius.

So Wise We Grow

"Commander Spock, we have located your son," the Vulcan lady on the screen says, which would be great, except Jim can tell by the look on Spock’s face that he’s never heard of this kid before in his life. "If it is expedient, the child will be sent to join you on the Enterprise within the week."

"By the time we’re done here, you’re going to be removing excrement right and left, placing your foot vigorously on buttocks, and collecting identifying data… hardcore. It’s going to be awesome."

Rating: Mature

A beautiful(ly illogical) mind

Jim never takes up Pike’s dare to do better. Close-canon movie AU, with touches of Good Will Hunting.

The answer is √π233/hy7.

Has been for all three months of the first semester. Jim’s not sure why the galaxy’s best and brightest haven’t realized that, but it’s not his school, not his problem.

Still…it’s three months into the semester and it just sits there, black ink on a white board, expectant, hopeful, just…waiting. And Jim knows the answer, because it’s not a hard equation. If h^4=zy/21x, then the answer has to be √π233/hy7. And yeah, he can prove it.

Rating: Explicit. one of my favorite fics that i can just reread and reread and not got tired of it. Its just so damn possible the author even included the crew’s involvement. I love this fic to bits.

On Restless Pinions

When Stonn goes into pon farr, T’Pring must break her bond with Spock, which has unforeseen consequences. But that’s not where their story starts.

Rating: Explicit

Jim led them out while the rest of the bridge crew stayed intent at their stations, perfectly willing to pretend that Spock’s outburst never occurred. Human, illogical, and something Spock acknowledged that he would be wholly grateful for when this episode passed. Such a trespass would not have gone undissected on Vulcan Past; it would have been forever picked apart and peered at with the usual Vulcan precision, and never forgotten, never forgiven. It would be logical, after all, to file away the information of some infirmity, to call it back whenever there came a disagreement so one party could discredit the other. Much like the abject offense of being human. Half. Mongrel.

 Every Hug

The first time was involuntary, I am certain. He did not walk toward me so much as fall against me, body crumpling in a graceful arch. I remained still, unsure of how to proceed. “You’re alive” he breathed, so softly that only I could have heard him.

Rating: Teen. Seriously, this is the first time I’ve read a SPOCK POV. I mean, thats rare and to be wonderfully written and be exactly like Spock. wow. Anything by the author is good too.

Excerpt: ”You lied,” I informed him the first time I allowed him a moment’s separation to inhale oxygen. “You did not wait the previously established full minute before—”

"Shut up, Spock," Jim laughed. "I think we’re both done waiting."

Extra-curricular Activities (fixed link)

Spock returns to the Academy from a tour of duty to find an intriguing cadet captures his attention.

Rating: NC-17

A Dance in Shadow and Silence

A shuttle crash leaves Spock, Sulu and Chekov adrift on a deserted ocean world. As Chekov fights for his life and Sulu tries desperately to save him, Spock reflects on the strong bond that exists between the two men and starts to wonder what it is he’s really afraid of in his friendship with Kirk…

The life of one man is, objectively, worth very little. One hundred years from now, had Chekov simply slipped with the shuttlecraft into the Stygian deep, he might be remembered as a footnote at the bottom of a long and crowded page in the lives of those who knew him once. Two hundred years from now, and there will be no-one left to care. Sulu had a choice, in those disordered moments, and he made it so easily it was as though it was no decision at all. I’ll get him out of this craft or I’ll die trying, he said, and the fact is that he would have died trying, had Spock not been available to lend his superior strength, and then two lives would have been lost for the sake of one. Subjectively, then, the life of one man might be worth more than everything. More, even, than the chance for continued survival. This makes absolutely no sense, from an evolutionary perspective, and yet… And yet Spock knows that he has walked in those shoes and made those choices; he knows from experience that, sometimes, continued survival is unthinkable if it’s at the expense of one particular life. And he cannot bring himself to call this wrong.

 Through Blind Men’s Eyes

The obligatory Pon Farr story … with a bit of a twist.

“Bones.”  His voice.  It was familiar now, as familiar as his own.  A strange thrumming in his side, picking up its pace as realization set in.  His heart.  “Bones,” he said again, his words but Spock’s voice.  “What the hell is going on?”

Rating: Explicit

 Gone, but for the Shadow

You couldn’t choose your family. All you could do was survive them.

Thoughts: Emotionally charged fic with an exceptional Bones characterization. Explored Jim’s and Spock’s past and insecurities. The excerpt below made me feel.

Shaking arms wrapped around Jim and pulled him onto Spock’s lap. Jim accommodated the move by swinging a leg over Spock’s and cradling his dark head to his chest. He pressed kisses to Spock’s crown and caressingly stroked Spock’s back in an attempt to sooth him.

"It’s okay. Spock, it’s okay."

"Do not leave me, Jim. Please. I will try harder."

Rating: Explicit

Strive, Seek, Find, Yield

Spock is heir to the Federation throne, Jim is Prince of America because his fucking brother abdicated, and the Klingons are on the verge of blowing shit up—a love story.

"They like it," Jim dismisses, waving his hand. It’s been a very long time since someone who wasn’t Sybok has interrupted him. Jim leans in towards Spock, forearms braced easily on his knees. "You got a hair cut. I liked it better longer."

"It covered my ears and eyebrows," Spock points out.

"And people kept grabbing you and you were getting migraines?" Jim supplies.

"Only this one particular thirteen-year-old," Spock demurs wryly.

"Sounds like such an ass," Jim says cheerfully.

Rating: Explicit, this fic is just precious. one of the first spirks i’ve read and without a doubt recommending it with everything I’ve got. it is just perfect. the angst and the plot. the crew. its PERFECT.

Bang a Gong

The chronicles of the Sad Bastards Club (Enterprise Chapter).

Rating: Explicit. hilarious. Jim is just full of fun.

"What?" Jim asked as Spock stared at him expectantly. Then he looked down.

Spock flicked him in the chin.

"Retaliation is not permitted," said Spock, and walked out of the turbolift as Bones collapsed against the back of it, wheezing with laughter.

Jim stared after him in shock. “You’re supposed to say, ‘no returns’!” he called as the doors slid shut again.

Jealous Orbits

In which Kirk and Spock have had sex half a dozen times, but this time it counts.

Rating: Explicit

"You’ve never looked at me that way," Kirk says, forcing himself not to flinch, no matter how overwhelming Spock’s expression is. "Not when we weren’t under the influence of microscopic pollen or molecular interference or experimental chemicals. You’ve never touched me of your own volition." Never touched him like that anyway. Spock has touched him plenty of times in all the innocent ways that don’t count.

Time’s Divergence

Let’s pretend that Spock Prime came through the same time Nero did, and Kirk lost both parents in the attack. Spock Prime raises Kirk, teaching him all he needs to know.

Rating: G

He is startled by the name Jim has picked for the dog, but at the same time felt deeply honored. He knew that his son was trying to help him in his own way to commemorate his beloved pet. Saval also knew it was a ploy to make him more attached to their new pet. It didn’t surprise him really; Jim was sometimes far to smart for his own good

Fighting Gravity

When Spock left Starfleet after the encounter with Nero, Jim thought he’d lost his chance at their supposedly destined friendship. Upon returning to Earth after the Enterprise’s first five-year mission, he discovers that Spock lost far more. Jim’s willing to fight for the bright future they were promised, but the one thing standing in its way is Spock himself.

Rating: Teen. This fic got stuck in my mind days after reading it. its just that.. Woah. really?  when i read what happened to Spock, I  was like. *facepalm* Spock, you stubborn hobgoblin.

Spock just looked bewildered. The sight of a bewildered Vulcan holding a stuffed penguin was, Jim had to admit, so absurd that it was ridiculously cute. “I… fail to see how shooting each other could be considered a… a friendly activity.”

Leave No Soul Behind

If you’re Starfleet, you spend your whole life wishing you never see an EPAS uniform right up until the moment they become your only hope. Whether you’re dying a slow, cold death in space, or a long painful one on some godforsaken planet, they’re going to come for you. So count your last breaths, son, and hold on tight. They leave no soul behind.

Rating: Mature. oh god. this fic. it’s so deliciously well-written, and long and plot filled. its just wow. just read it. it might take you days to finish it cause its 250k+ words and i just cant— just. go read.

The sound is gone in an instant, along with the air and the heat.  Sulu’s mouth opens in a silent scream and Jim can see the small capillaries begin to explode in his eyes.  Before he can think about it, Jim pops the seal on his helmet and opens the visor in Sulu’s face.  The Captain takes a deep, painful breath of frozen air, hardly enough, but his cheeks flush pink and the tears don’t freeze in his eyes.

Of course this means that Jim is now totally fucked, too.

Papers in the Roadside

Non-Starfleet AU. Jim owns a small bar in Chicago, keeps on picking up strays and taking care of everyone no matter how hard it makes his own life. Spock is a journalist writing feature articles for the Chicago Tribune; he depicts the world with uncanny skill, but hides more than one personal drama and is possibly under surveillance from the Vulcan royal family. They meet by accident just before their lives start to spin out of control.

Rating: Explicit. brilliant writing. The author’s characters were in character and were just spot on. The story full of angst and harsh words never meant to be heard.. everything works out though.

The Vulcan is tall and dressed in jeans of all things, the pant legs wet up to his knees and his canvas shoes clearly soaked through. Jim blinks, watching as the Vulcan wrestles with a huge purple monster of an umbrella, trying to fit it into the holder. There’s something almost psychedelic about the image, a surreal tinge to the picture playing out in the gloom of a backstreet bar while a thunderstorm rages outside.

The Vulcan walks slowly toward the bar, unbuttoning his wet jacket to reveal a simple grey shirt underneath. His hair is also more wet than not, and Jim wonders if the guy knows that an umbrella has purposes other than collecting water.

Mutable Signs

Change comes in many forms; for Spock, that change was an alien slave named Kirk.

Rating: NC-17. This fic, despite its premise, contains no main pairing noncon or dubcon.

“A kiss?”

The word sounded familiar, but strange—it was a human word, one with no Vulcan equivalent. Of course, this made perfect sense.

“If that is what it is called. We have no such thing on Vulcan, and I wonder…what is the appeal of such contact?”

Kirk rubbed at the back of his neck, his hands smoothing the short hairs. He looked as though he were thinking very seriously about the matter, something that Spock appreciated.

Oasis and its counterpart Mirage

Kirk accidentally lands himself on an alternate Enterprise in an alternate reality - a reality where Surak’s reformation of Vulcan never happened.

Rating: Explicit. This is HOT HOT HOT. imagine a warrior!Spock. that’s right. you know the fic wherein the author puts fluff, sex, action and everything HOT? yeah. this might be it.

A crash sounded as Kirk reached out and cleared the surface of the desk behind Spock with one swipe. “My research - ” Kirk pushed him down on his back, pinning him to the desk surface with his hard body and bringing their hard cocks together, and Spock promptly forgot his complaint. It’s not like he didn’t back every bit of data up anyway.

Big Me (But It’s You I Fell Into)

Jim Kirk, a man of long drives and large personality, stumbles into a career in the PGA Tour. Fame, fortune and notoriety await him as Jim collects national media attention, groupies, a new best friend, the ire of the first lady of pro golf, and also, maybe, the love of his life.

Rating: Mature. AU fic that’s made up of Golf and Family and Cockiness and Bones. How Bones and Jim met on this one is fantastic! and Scotty was made of pure win.

“You know, we looked into it,” said Hikaru, “and you seem to be the first pro golfer to have an unofficial fan club.”

“There are t-shirts,” offered Jim. “A woman named Gaila makes them.”

“Her website’s reportedly sold two thousand since the weekend,” said Pavel.

okay so if you want a coherent review of this fic go here [x] cause this fic just makes me want to go hang myself because of its awesomeness. I totally LOVE fics like this. just go read it. It’s got a BAMF!Jim and MANY more.

McCoy shut his eyes for a moment, shaking his head slightly. “Vulcans can’t round up and just say nine-thirty?”

"Vulcans prize accuracy above simplicity, Doctor."

"Sure they do." The doctor sighed deeply, shaking his head again as he scanned the PADD. "We’ll placate the Human and say it’s nine-thirty. If Jim’s keeping his schedule—and wouldn’t my life be easier if he ever did—he’s got the programming seminar right now. But it’s over soon, and there’s a gap afterwards until two. That’s 1400 hours, for you. And good luck finding him if he gets away after the seminar. My responsibilities," he added with a snarl, "don’t start for another six hours, since I was up until dawn doing rounds in recovery. So if you’ll excuse me, Commander, I’m goin’ back to bed." He stabbed an accusatory finger at Spock’s face. "Do your job and go away. That kid has enough on his plate without you adding your crap to it. You leave him alone, you hear me?"

One Wing

Kirk and Spock are on a strange planet with no weapons, no communicators, and no clue what the hell is happening. They have no way of knowing that Spock Prime’s life depends on their choices.

Rating: Explicit.

Jim sighed. “I’m not going to make you leave. I’m not going to drag you out of here, or order you to follow orders. Trust me, if I woke up and my father was alive and my mother was making dinner for my birthday, I don’t think I’d be able to leave, either.” He stood, wondering if the heavy sick feeling in his midsection meant he was doing the right thing. “I’m not going to be the one who takes her away from you twice.”

Jim realized he meant every single word. He simply wasn’t going to take Amanda away from Spock again. Even if that meant Spock spent an entire eternity in the nexus. Even if that meant Jim never saw him again. The Enterprise could function without him. Somehow. It probably wouldn’t function well, and Uhura would never forgive him, and he had no idea how he was supposed to be an efficient captain without his first mate. He had no idea how he was supposed to live without Spock at all, but he would have to find a way. People learned to adjust after they lost limbs. Jim could do the same.

Shore Leave

James T. Kirk is murdered during shore leave, but it is really that simple? While Spock looks for answers, a man with no identity wakes up in servitude.

Rating: Teen. mind blowing. its almost like the movie “The Island” but more intense. The plot is terrific, the characterizations spot on, and the how they handled the situation was.. logical.

Pondering this mystery, he summoned up an image of an attractive archetype. The image spun to life in his mind surprisingly fast: a tall, thin, pale being, but not like him. There were other traits expressed in this archetype that he did not have: a tinge of green to the skin, dark hair, dark eyes, ears tapered off to a point.

NL2036 looked around the room expectantly, but the archetype did not exist.

How disappointing.

First was: Spock is under me. This prompted the logical deduction: I am on top of Spock.

Third was: we’re sprawled on a desk, followed closely by: why am I lying on my stomach?

and finally:… I can’t move.

Rating: Mature. This is funny as hell and intense. The crew was perfect and so were Jim and Kirk. the OCs were terrific! you grow to love each one of them.

Take Refuge in What You Know

"Kirk has moved into a apartment/house and wants to get to know his neighbors. He meets his neighbor Spock, a loner who suffers from extreme agoraphobia. Kirk thinks he’s beautiful enigma."

"I forgot I was talking to the president of the Vulcan Fan Club," McCoy muttered, rubbing at his face again.

"You should join up. We give out rubber ears at the introductory meetings. Then we learn archery and sing at the trees for awhile. Sometimes we go on epic quests to save the world from giant eyeballs."

So there he was, sequestered in the Academy research library trying to pull every article, essay, book, and news feed on Vulcan culture that he possibly could, hoping that somewhere he’d find some magical clue to getting into Spock’s pants.

Or at least his shirt.

Hell, he’d take a single undone button at this point.

(Yep, he was a sad sack of crap, all right.)

Rating: Mature

Helloooo, Nurse!

Jim Kirk is the only male nurse on theEnterprise. He’s also the only one with any experience with Vulcan biology. You can guess who he’s been assigned to.

Spock only realised that he had fallen asleep – although, when had he lain down? – when his hand nestled in the soft, thick hair of whomever was lying atop him. With the bleary realisation that it was Jim cuddled against him, Spock murmured his consent and floated back into blissful respite.

No. Spock shot up from the couch, his body and mind on full alert.

Unfortunately, his reaction time had been woefully delayed. To be exact, his lag had been twenty-seven minutes in error. Nurse Kirk was no longer sleeping on the couch, or on him. He was no longer in the room at all. To the end of his days, Spock would swear that his heart ceased to beat.
